From random walk to studying the Pattern formation on a periodic rectangle

Arvin Vaziry · Monday, October 27, 2025

My main research focuses on pattern formation in reaction diffusion (RD) system. Studying the pattern formation of Schnakenberg model on a rectangle with periodic boundary condition in my recent paper lands on the intersection of three different problem in applied math.

However, In favour of majority of our department which are not in applied math, I would approach this intersection from a classic old problem, random walk, and to establish the set up of problem, I would like to use statistical notation (to brag about my recent studies in stochastic analysis!). Once, I have the set up, I may explain the derivation of the problem from RD systems briefly.

Investigating the stability of pattern formation in this problem, will lead us to a side problem in number theory (which change my perspective about math, and I’ll share my post on LinkedIn about it with you!). I will explain the results of stability analysis of the patterns and time permitting I will share open questions that arises from this work.
